Skråmträsk Kvarn - an eco-certified café

In the summer of 2018, just over 90% of our purchases were organic, which allowed us to step up to the highest level for KRAV-certified cafés/restaurants. In 2022, we reached 99% organic goods and the goal is to continue at this high level.

This is what KRAV writes on its website about the criteria for certification at the gold level (highest level):

"Restaurants can be certified at four levels that show diners what proportion of the restaurant's food is prepared with ingredients that KRAV considers sustainable. The greater the proportion of sustainable ingredients, the higher the level of the special KRAV label for restaurants. The gold level (...) means that at least 90% are sustainable ingredients and at least 60% are eco-certified.

In addition to eco-certified, sustainable food also includes products that are EU-organically certified, MSC-labeled fish and shellfish, and Swedish game meat. An eco-certified restaurant may not use products containing GMOs.

The operations of an eco-certified restaurant are checked regularly. The checks are carried out by companies (certification companies) that carry out checks based on KRAV's rules, but which are completely independent of KRAV. What is checked is, for example, the purchase of KRAV-labeled food, and that cleaning agents and packaging materials are eco-labeled. KRAV-certified restaurants must, among other things, have a written environmental policy and documents proving that their staff have good working conditions, such as working hours in accordance with collective agreements."

Skråmträsk Kvarn is currently the only café in Norrland that is eco-certified at the gold level.

We are happy to collaborate with local suppliers who offer sustainably produced goods. For example, we always use milk and cream etc. from Norrmejerier's KRAV-labeled range, lettuce and herbs from Hällnäs trade garden.

The coffee we serve is of course both organic and Fair Trade certified - Women's Rights Coffee from Eguale. It is produced by a women's cooperative in Peru and is a good and gently roasted coffee that you can also drink with an extra clear conscience. For those who want to cool off with something cold, we offer organic sodas from Sodalicious or eco-certified ice cream from Sänkdalens ice cream.
